South Pacific tickets are one of the most sought of all current Broadway tickets. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific musical began Broadway previews back in March, 2008, and a buzz of excitement and anticipation accompanied the crowds who eagerly bought South Pacific tickets during that time. A South Pacific Broadway revival was always going to earn plenty of attention and this timely effort was no exception. The official opening on April 3 at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre ensured that the production was an instant hit; the actors and orchestra were splendid and not an audience member (or critic) left the Beaumont unimpressed. In fact, South Pacific Broadway is now among the very top selling theater tickets on Broadway, and is showing little sign of losing that status.
South Pacific is as powerful today as it was back in the late-40s, when it was first adapted from author James A. Michener’s 1948 novel, Tales of the South Pacific. Michener won a Pulitzer for his story, which met the interracial challenges of the era head-on, exploring racial conflict in an exotic setting. The South Pacific musical soon won a Pulitzer prize for Drama - just two years later, in 1950 - and the musical exposed the issues in even starker relief than the book, if anything. It is ironic that a musical which dealt with such sensitive and volatile issues should spawn a host of popular songs, like “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Happy Talk” and “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair”. It is also a testament to the brilliance of Rodgers and Hammerstein. South Pacific Broadway had such a lush start in life (it was nominated for, and won, 10 Tony Awards) that it is difficult to imagine South Pacific tickets not selling extremely well.
The beauty of the South Pacific musical is its setting; a remote and tropical South Pacific island, occupied by a mixed wartime collection of American military men and exotic islanders. South Pacific tickets were and still are a passport to a distant land where multi-racial couples fall in love and find themselves confronted by the offspring of other, previous relationships, among other things. With a dark undercurrent of wartime intrigue and spying, the plot takes the audience on an edge-of-seat mission to mend broken hearts and defeat the Japanese Navy. South Pacific Broadway has it all: vivid backdrops, believable dilemmas, interesting characters and fantastic music. Buy South Pacific tickets and behold this award-winning story for yourself.
